Episode Highlights

What is Intuition?

  • Intuition is often described as a form of knowledge that seems to appear within our awareness without an obvious source.
  • This differs from anxiety in that anxiety may manifest as an intense feeling, worry, or fear.
  • Intuition touches more on our instincts than logic.

Why Do We Experience Anxiety?

  • There is such a thing as a healthy amount of anxiety. Anxiety motivates us to avoid potentially harmful situations and helps us stay ahead of danger.
  • Anxiety disorders may arise when we are on high alert even when there isn’t a significant danger present.

How Does the Thought Make You Feel?

  • Anxiety may disguise itself as the fear that something very bad is going to happen if you don’t listen to your “gut” instinct.
  • Intuition is often described more as a “knowing” that seems clear and makes sense to us.
  • If you’re having trouble differentiating between the two, it can help to lean on a trusted friend or therapist to give you an objective opinion about the situation.

5 Powerful Quotes

  • “Often, many of our anxieties are environmental such as our financial situation, problems at home or work, sickness, and exhaustion.”
  • “Anxiety has the power to raise our blood pressure levels, affect our digestion, cause physical aches and pains, exhaust us, and impact our personal success and relationships.”
  • “When anxiety masks itself as intuition, we risk self-sabotaging in ways that our not-anxious self would never do intentionally.”
  • “Chaotic environments, scrolling mindlessly on social media, or substance abuse are just some of the variables in our lives that increase our levels of anxiety.”
  • “Being able to trust ourselves and our thoughts is a skill that we master over time with constant maintenance, trial and error, and mindfulness.”
